The Grand Lodge of Free And Accepted Masons (F.A.A.M.) of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC, invites you to learn about one of the world’s oldest and most significant fraternal organizations and its impact on the creation of the United States and its capital city of the District of Columbia. During the Grand Lodge’s “Universal Brotherhood Celebration,” join with members of all the Masonic organizations from around the world as they teach about history in a unique walk through the center of the nation's capital city.
Freemasonry is the world's oldest fraternity and the model of most modern day fraternal organizations. Freemasonry promotes the ideal of a Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God. Freemasons are bound together by moral and philosophical ties in a brotherhood where all men are regarded as peers.
A Volksmarch is a public, non-competitive walk or walking tour for recreation, education, social intercourse, and health.
The American Volkssport Association (AVA) is a non-profit organization of over 350 clubs throughout the United States. The clubs host volksmarches, bikes, and swims for fitness, fun, and fellowship. Each year, AVA clubs organize over 3,000 events at historic, scenic, and cultural locations. For over 25 years, the AVA has sponsored events where everyone is a winner and everyone is eligible for international awards for participation and lifetime achievements. The AVA is the United States affiliate of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) with member organizations in over 35 countries on four continents. The IVV is the international organization of volksmarching.
Everyone is welcome to participate! Walkers from all over the world will participate in this unique event. Volksmarchers who are members of the Craft or any of the associated organizations are strongly encouraged to participate.
